Dear fellow Rawhiders, I have successfully installed rawhide on an Acer Aspire one netbook. I have encountered several difficulties, but I have overcome some of them. 1) The netbook had Windows XP and a hidden Restore partition. I used xfce Livecd from Adam Miller, it resized the XP partition beautifully everything worked except when grub was written the partition that was booted was the restore partition and I overcame it by changing the (hd0,0) to (hd0,1) and I could boot XP again. Here's how I modified boot/grub/grub.conf [olivares@acer-aspire-1 ~]$ [root@acer-aspire-1 ~]# cat /boot/grub/grub.conf # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg. # root (hd0,2) # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_aceraspire1-lv_root # initrd /initrd-version.img #boot=/dev/sda default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,2)/grub/splash.xpm.gz hiddenmenu title Fedora (2.6.31-0.162.rc6.git2.fc12.i686) root (hd0,2) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31-0.162.rc6.git2.fc12.i686 ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_aceraspire1-lv_root acpi=off SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 LANG=en_US.UTF-8 KEYTABLE=us rd_plytheme=charge initrd /initrd-generic-2.6.31-0.162.rc6.git2.fc12.i686.img title Fedora (2.6.31-0.125.rc5.git2.fc12.i686) root (hd0,2) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31-0.125.rc5.git2.fc12.i686 ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_aceraspire1-lv_root acpi=off initrd /initrd-2.6.31-0.125.rc5.git2.fc12.i686.img title windows xp rootnoverify (hd0,1) chainloader +1 title Acer Restore rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1 2) Kernel Oops encountered: http://www.kerneloops.org/submitresult.php?number=647557 3) Smolt Profile http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_dbc0e3df-fdbf-4462-a0aa-43aadb15a586 4) I have to use boot parameter acpi=off, otherwise when starting up booting hangs and I get immediate kernel panic. 5) The machine also has trouble shutting down. I have to press and hold power button so that the machine can shut down properly. Other than that, I am running rawhide on a netbook :) If anyone has advice/suggestions or has questions. I'll try my best to answer them accordingly to my experiences with it.
