As far as I know, the only general documentation you could possibly
write would be to say something like: Try it, if it works, you
don't have a problem, if it doesn't work, some combination of
your bios, motherboard, or disk controller exceeds the limit
for boot sector location.

I know I was surprised to find I can put bootable partitions
way the heck out near the end of my 500GB sata disk in extended
partitions with no problems at all on my main computer at home.
I tried it and it worked :-).
