Yeh, cheers, I just forget the flags and syntax of the command occasionally :P

To stop a service (sendmail in this case)..

service sendmail stop (or start, restart, etc..)

To turn a service off when booting or changing run levels..


chkconfig sendmail off (turns it off for all runlevels in it's config)
