Create an /etc/sysconfig/desktop file (or replace it if it already exists)
with the following contents:
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"
DESKTOP="KDE"
The first line (and yes, that's really "KDE", not "KDM") sets the display
manager to KDM, the second one the systemwide default desktop to KDE.
