I find the applications on this spin to be a bit of a letdown (they're all quite
resource intense), and even when I shut off most services and gnome things, there
isn't enough ram to actually do much (one Firefox instance takes care of what RAM
is left).
The best I could do last night was to drop RAM usage to a point where there was
about 86 Megs free. Firefox will gladly eat all this away though.
So just for fun I tried out the F10 XFCE spin. It runs quite nicely, from a performance perspective, it's acceptable with no changes.
So here are my thoughts and fears.
If we go with the F10 GNOME spin, there will be two likely reactions from users:
If the user knows Fedora, they'll probably get annoyed they paid extra for their SD
card because it's so slow.
If they don't know Fedora, they're going to assume Fedora is a fat slow pig and
sucks.
The more I try to slim this down, the more frustrated I'm getting, and I like to
think I'm a bit smarter than the average bear here. Is there a reason we HAVE to
use the GNOME spin for this, or can other options be considered?
