First thing I like to do is compile mplayer from source and install it to play the files that do not play regularly by default. But
Mplayer fails to compile,
Save yourself time and effort.
Go to rpm.livna.org.
Install livna-release for Fedora 9
Diable the stable repo and enable the development repo
# yum install mplayer
