I was looking at the /etc/pam.d/gdm file. Which has: auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet It just seems like pam only has the option to say allowed or denied. Is that true? Does it have the option to return something like: user whoever not allowed? In this case: user root not allowed Seems like it would be friendlier to say: "User root not allowed" Instead of: "Unable to authenticate user" Just not sure if pam is able to do things like that or not.
