I did not have an xorg.conf in /etx/X11/ directory, then I had one because it was needed to to be able to surf the net and send emails. Today after applying the updates, X does not work. I switched to vesa to be able to get X working to send this message. Here's what I got when I typed startx when it was not working :( Script started on Tue 12 Aug 2008 11:54:22 AM CDT [olivares@localhost ~]$ s[Kclear [H[J[olivares@localhost ~]$ startx xauth: creating new authority file /home/olivares/.serverauth.4111 X.Org X Server 1.4.99.906 (1.5.0 RC 6) Release Date: X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 i686 Current Operating System: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.27-0.244.rc2.git1.fc10.i686 #1 SMP Fri Aug 8 13:26:20 EDT 2008 i686 Build Date: 05 August 2008 01:17:52AM Build ID: xorg-x11-server 1.4.99.906-5.fc10 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. Then I tried startx getting the errors on top. I then ran system-config-display to generate an xorg.conf file, but it failed saying that no X servers found. I also tried Xorg -configure and it did not generate /root/xorg.conf.new file either. So I booted a livecd and copied the Xorg.conf file from there and changed to vesa driver from intel.
