rawhide sounds (and lack thereof)

Decided to clear out the cruft by doing a clean install of FC9 off the live cd then upgrading to Rawhide. All is well except for sound, which worked fine before the upgrade. No sound when booting into runlevel 3. No cute little sounds when I click on a panel launcher, but aplay /usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav works from a terminal window within Gnome. Sound Preferences->Devices are all set to Autodetect. Sound Preferences->Sounds aet to Play system sounds (all of which are set to default). Sound Preferences->Sounds->Sound theme is default. gnome-audio and gnome-audio-extra are installed. Is there a simple way to get my sounds back?
