After having used preupgrade to upgrade a dual core x86_64 I got the computer consistently freezed after booting the computer. FWIW preupgrade worked like a charm. :-) I suspect that I have seen a message today about this issue but for some reason I cann't find it. :-( The workaround I found is to boot into level 3 and then switch to level 5. I have removed the xorg.conf file but the problem remains. :-( That is, it freezes whether or not there is an xorg.conf file. The driver used is intel. According to lspci I get: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) According to the log file it ends with: Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/Xorg(xf86SigHandler+0x65) [0x479fe5] 1: /lib64/libc.so.6 [0x7fbf245352a0] 2: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so(DRILock+0x47) [0x7fbf238438a7] 3: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_master_drv.so [0x7fbf231f7a77] 4: /usr/bin/Xorg(AbortDDX+0x8d) [0x460acd] 5: /usr/bin/Xorg(AbortServer+0x18) [0x4f6028] 6: /usr/bin/Xorg(FatalError+0xd5) [0x4f66f5] 7: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_master_drv.so(I830WaitLpRing+0x1c1) [0x7fbf231ede51] 8: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_master_drv.so(I830Sync+0x1b3) [0x7fbf231ee223] 9: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules//libexa.so(exaWaitSync+0x8c) [0x7fbf2229936c] 10: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules//libexa.so(ExaDoPrepareAccess+0xa5) [0x7fbf2229a935] 11: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules//libexa.so [0x7fbf2229bc68] 12: /usr/lib64/xorg/modules//libexa.so(exaShmPutImage+0x165) [0x7fbf2229c6e5] 13: /usr/bin/Xorg [0x506c67] 14: /usr/bin/Xorg [0x508095] 15: /usr/bin/Xorg(Dispatch+0x364) [0x446394] 16: /usr/bin/Xorg(main+0x45d) [0x42c87d] 17: /lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xfa) [0x7fbf2452132a] 18: /usr/bin/Xorg(FontFileCompleteXLFD+0x279) [0x42bc59] FatalError re-entered, aborting Caught signal 11.
