Dell Inspiron 1420 no sound

That is a bit of a lie, the 1420 has head phone jacks on the front, far left and middle and the far right is mic.  The middle is the only thing that puts out sound.  Laptop speakers have zero sound.  I had this problem in F8 and had to build alsa-drivers manually.  Anyone else have this issue still?
