Yes, both nv and nouveau should be working. I can use either one
successfully with my fx5900xt agp card.
Is there any special configuration file modification needed? I only seem
to be able to work with vesa. The below contains information related to
nvidia and nvidiafb but my results were the same before I installed the
third party rpms. Interesting to know that they work though.

Looks like you've still got the nvidia driver loading, which you don't want.
Either get it uninstalled and all the kmod stuff removed from livna, or
blacklist it temporarily in modprobe.conf. Just make sure if you're trying to
use nv or nouveau you don't have the nvidia module in kernel at the time. I'm
assuming you just ran lspci while nvidia was loaded, but its pointless to have
that kernel module load at all right now.
