I don't see this - I did a fresh install inside VMWare yesterday, and
can login to the desktop without any problems. Perhaps a bit more
description of what the setup is would help.
Pretty likely you ran into the X server bug everyone else on the list has seen.
Downgrading xorg-x11-server-Xorg and xorg-x11-server-common may fix it if you
had updated those as of 1 apr 08.
