There hasn't been an i386 kernel for a *long* time.  I think what
you're referring to is the uname -r changes referred to here:

The fact that you have a new kernel oops is likely wholly unrelated to
this change.


Oh, I see. I have to relearn the *assume* lesson every now and then...its nice to have been part of this scene since PCAM days and constantly remind ones self of that lesson.
