It doesn't work from the GDM screen, and Gnome is so messed up right now
that I'm using XFCE (where ctrl-alt-F1 doesn't work either)
I booted up in runlevel 3 where the control and alternate keys worked. I
opened up a terminal for root and for regular user. Maybe it is broken
for the GUI in general, X marks th spot?
