Dear all, aside from having no sound, also k3b tells me that there are no dvd/cd writers present on my system No CD/DVD writer found. K3b did not find an optical writing device in your system. Thus, you will not be able to burn CDs or DVDs. However, you can still use other K3b features like audio track extraction or audio transcoding or ISO9660 image creation. Good thing I ran k3b from CLI/Konsole and I got the following: [olivares@localhost Downloads]$ k3b & [1] 7888 [olivares@localhost Downloads]$ kbuildsycoca running... *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format terminated ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x48)[0x58f498] /lib/libc.so.6[0x58db40] /lib/libc.so.6[0x58e51c] /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format[0x8048ed6] /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format[0x804ae25] /lib/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe0)[0x4b64a0] /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format[0x8048bf1] ======= Memory map: ======== 00110000-00111000 r-xp 00110000 00:00 0 [vdso] 0047e000-0049c000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 14254091 /lib/ld-2.7.90.so 0049c000-0049d000 r-xp 0001d000 fd:00 14254091 /lib/ld-2.7.90.so 0049d000-0049e000 rwxp 0001e000 fd:00 14254091 /lib/ld-2.7.90.so 004a0000-005fd000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 14254092 /lib/libc-2.7.90.so 005fd000-005ff000 r-xp 0015d000 fd:00 14254092 /lib/libc-2.7.90.so 005ff000-00600000 rwxp 0015f000 fd:00 14254092 /lib/libc-2.7.90.so 00600000-00603000 rwxp 00600000 00:00 0 00605000-0062c000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 14254126 /lib/libm-2.7.90.so 0062c000-0062d000 r-xp 00026000 fd:00 14254126 /lib/libm-2.7.90.so 0062d000-0062e000 rwxp 00027000 fd:00 14254126 /lib/libm-2.7.90.so 00637000-0064d000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 14254108 /lib/libpthread-2.7.90.so 0064d000-0064e000 r-xp 00015000 fd:00 14254108 /lib/libpthread-2.7.90.so 0064e000-0064f000 rwxp 00016000 fd:00 14254108 /lib/libpthread-2.7.90.so 0064f000-00651000 rwxp 0064f000 00:00 0 009f3000-009fe000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 14254128 /lib/libgcc_s-4.1.2-20071124.so.1 009fe000-009ff000 rwxp 0000a000 fd:00 14254128 /lib/libgcc_s-4.1.2-20071124.so.1 00a01000-00ae1000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 32545137 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8 00ae1000-00ae5000 r-xp 000df000 fd:00 32545137 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8 00ae5000-00ae6000 rwxp 000e3000 fd:00 32545137 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.8 00ae6000-00aec000 rwxp 00ae6000 00:00 0 08048000-08050000 r-xp 00000000 fd:00 32545461 /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format 08050000-08051000 rw-p 00007000 fd:00 32545461 /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format 09b81000-09ba2000 rw-p 09b81000 00:00 0 b7db0000-b7fb0000 r--p 00000000 fd:00 32549023 /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive b7fb0000-b7fb3000 rw-p b7fb0000 00:00 0 b7fd0000-b7fd1000 rw-s 00000000 fd:00 28901420 /tmp/dvd+rw-format.qSSH7k (deleted) bfcd3000-bfce8000 rw-p bffea000 00:00 0 [stack] /dev/sr1 resolved to /dev/sr1 (K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr1 for reading (Permission denied) could not open device /dev/sr1 (Permission denied) /dev/scd1 resolved to /dev/sr1 (K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr1 for reading (Permission denied) could not open device /dev/sr1 (Permission denied) /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/sr0 (K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr0 for reading (Permission denied) could not open device /dev/sr0 (Permission denied) /dev/scd0 resolved to /dev/sr0 (K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr0 for reading (Permission denied) could not open device /dev/sr0 (Permission denied) (K3bDevice::DeviceManager) SCANNING FOR GENERIC DEVICES.
