  I have the same problem with kernel-2.6.23.8-63.fc8

$ pulseaudio

E: module-alsa-sink.c: Error opening PCM device hw:0: No such device
E: module.c: Failed to load  module "module-alsa-sink" (argument: "device=hw:0

$ timidity -iA
TiMidity starting in ALSA server mode
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:457:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: Permission
denied
error in snd_seq_open

  kmix does not show any mixer and so on.

  This bug appeared before during the test stage of Fedora 8 and can be found
in pulseaudio component.

  I am not sure what is the culprit... :-(
