kernel.i686 0:2.6.24-0.55.rc3.git3.fc9 does not boot and removing it removes other new packages

Dear all,

kernel 2.6.24-0.55.rc3.git3.fc9 does not boot like others have reported, 
* hangs at checking if image is initramfs...  *

removing it via yum removes other packages,

[root@localhost ~]# yum remove kernel-2.6.24-0.55.rc3.git3.fc9 kernel-headers-2.6.24-0.55.rc3.git3.fc9

I removed kernel-2.6.24-0.43.rc3.git1.fc9 because it also fails to boot.
