Just to let you know, I did yum update f7 -> f8 a fully loaded x86_64
system.

Basically, I followed instructions here. Note that it is recommended to
do:

1) Install fedora-release-8 rpm
2) yum update yum <<<< not mentioned in article
3) yum update

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumUpgradeFaq
I'll try it soon without yum update yum, to see if that step is really
necessary. If so, I can add it to the wiki.
I'm just curious, how long did it take and approximately what is your bandwidth?

Thanks,

my experience with the fc6 -> f7 dist upgrade via yum
ca. 4,5 hours

# rpm -Uvh fedora-release-7-3.noarch.rpm fedora-release-notes-7.0.0-1.noarch.rpm
# yum update

download:
ca. 2 hours
yum  == 1,3GB   >1040 packages
ca. 200K/s ; dsl 2000

installation:
ca. 2,5 hours
yum.log: Oct 28 16:29:02 - Oct 28 18:53:53

you should evtl. stop cyrus-imapd before the db4-utils update.
stopping other services could evtl. speed up the process.

fedora itself is on a old 40GB PATA (the SATA devices are for the datas only)
