the empty /etc/hosts seems to be a common rawhide problem.
my emty rawhide /etc/hosts 2007-10-11, this was an upgrade from fc6 ->
f7 -> f8test3+updates
$ cat /etc/hosts
and my fc6 /etc/hosts
$ cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
--
shrek-m
