yup, did it both ways.  same result.  i've tried this on both a
stock linksys router, and one running openwrt.  no luck either way.

i should have emphasized that both setups with no encrytion worked
just fine.  so i'm open to suggestions for debugging.  i've already

iwevent ?

done the obvious things like tailing /var/log/messages to watch the
DHCP packets while trying to connect and so on.
