I have the same laptop, and it consistently pulls 33MB/s under F7's .22 kernel, and from memory, it was the same result under F6's .20 I don't recall it ever getting near the speeds you mention. Under F7 it's using ata_piix. What driver is yours using, and can you paste the output of hdparm -i for that device ?
