The last two kernels 2997 & 2999 no longer allows VMWare to build. Anybody have a fix?

Jim

can't say something to kernels 2997 & 2999, but for previous:

cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/
tar xvf vmmon.tar
cd vmmon-only/include
vi compat_kernel.h

line 80:
#define __NR_compat_exit __NR_exit
+#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE < KERNEL_VERSION(2,6,19)
	static inline _syscall1(int, compat_exit, int, exit_code);
-
+#endif

tar -cf vmmon.tar vmmon-only
vmware-config.pl -d

works.
there is also a patch version at vmware mail lists.

keep in mind:
one of the new wmware-player versions implements a sort of WGA/licence-key checkup.

try virtualbox. gpl !
