You are right, when I typed "/sbin/ip" and "/sbin/ifconfig", both commands worked. Also "rpm -q net-tools" resulted in "net-tools-1.60-78.fc7".

ifconfig is in /sbin.  /sbin is not in the default path.  Yes, this is
ridiculous.
