This only happens with KDE or XFCE4 desktops. Under Gnome, Firefox
works fine but does have the error you mentioned under both of the
other desktops for some reason. I finally switched to Gnome to use
firefox.

Starting in safe mode still dies, but with more description:

I'm running KDE and it gave no errors on startup.
