Are there any good suggestions as to how to fix this - either fixed RPMs
or a list of old RPMs to get?
According to David Nielsen [1], installing the glibc and related RPMs
from the FC6 installation DVD/CDs fixes it.
glibc-*, ncsd from Fedora 6 does it for me too.
I downloaded the glibc-devel-2.5-3.i386.rpm glibc-2.5-3.i686.rpm
glibc-headers-2.5-3.i386.rpm glibc-common-2.5-3.i386.rpm
versions, mounted my development installation using my FC6 installation,
chrooted /mnt/hdb4 in a gui terminal as root. Changed to the /root
directory in the chrooted development installation. I then copied the
files over from the user directory where the files were downloaded and
then copied them to /mnt/hdb4/root in another root terminal.
Then in the chrooted environment and in the /root directory, I ran rpm
-Uvh --oldpackage *.rpm
I guess the new package will be awhile in coming. I know the package is
extremely complex, so I'll keep the old one instead of patching and
recompiling.
Oh well, it's rawhide!

Our congratulations go to a Burlington Vermont civilian employee of the
local Army National Guard base.
Not suprisingly, we also have a couple of money-saving ideas that we submit
to the Pentagon free of charge:
(a) Don't kill anybody.
(b) Don't build things that do.
(c) And don't pay other people to kill anybody.
We expect annual savings to be in the billions.
