I'm running FC6 test3 x86_64 on a dell precision 690, and I'm getting
concerned about a bug that I reported some time ago:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=208033
and also see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=200787
After my machine has been running for a while, I start getting these
error messages:
Sep 27 13:25:52 grograman kernel: mptscsih: ioc0: attempting task abort!
(sc=ffff810113542740)
Sep 27 13:25:52 grograman kernel: sd 0:0:1:0:
Sep 27 13:25:52 grograman kernel: command: Write(10): 2a 00 00 05 00 ed
00 00 10 00
Sep 27 13:25:52 grograman kernel: mptbase: ioc0: LogInfo(0x31140000):
Originator={PL}, Code={IO Executed}, SubCode(0x0000)
Sep 27 13:25:52 grograman kernel: mptscsih: ioc0: task abort: SUCCESS
(sc=ffff810113542740)
and eventually the machine freezes. This typically happens within 6
hours or so of starting it up, sometimes almost immediatly after start
up. Once it starts giving this error message, any process that tries
to access the file system hangs, and the Alt+SysRq+S emergency sync
doesn't work -- it displays the message that it's trying to sync but
it never finishes. Ctrl+Alt+Delete doesn't work, presumably because
that involves sending signals to processes and such. From what I can
tell, this bug was introduced into the mptscsi driver at some point in
a recent kernel update and has been present in FC5 and FC6 ever since.
I'm really at my wits end -- I have this nice new workstation that I
basically can't use. I've googled and looked on fedora and dell
mailing lists and I've monitored bugzilla but I can't find any mention
of a work-around that I can use. (Someone suggested changing the scsi
transfer rate in the bios but I can't find an option to do that
anywhere on my workstation.) Has anyone else seen this problem? Has
anyone found a work-around? Is someone working on this? Is there any
hope of having it fixed by the final FC6 release?
(Otherwise I guess I'll have to find a distribution with an older kernel.)
Thanks,
