Hi,
2.6.18 (2647) did not fix the pata dma-problem:
[root@helios ~]# hdparm -d /dev/hdc
/dev/hdc:
using_dma = 0 (off)
[root@helios ~]# hdparm -d 1 /dev/hdc
/dev/hdc:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
[root@helios ~]#
Or do I have to do some configuration change ?

But the canoncial solution would be to enable DMA ? Has anyone an idea
where the problem lies ?
You need a new enough kernel to handle the ICH6M SATA and PATA together
nicely
and the devices not to be in compatibility mode.
Alternatively build 2.6.18-rc4-mm2 and select the Intel PIIX/ICH driver from
that without the "old IDE" PIIX driver and it should grab all the
devices and
put them under /dev/sda /dev/sr0 etc using libata.
Alan
I found that I had to set a flag for my laptop to use dma.
Google for ICH6 flags to set in grub.
I can play DVD's and videos from my HD or DVD player under FC4. :)
