This system is also successfully running multi-boot with XP and FC5 with
WiFi and nVidia kmdl RPMS from ATrpms. Graphics are often somewhat
garbled with "pixel dithering" when using the xorg nv driver rather than
the nVidia proprietary driver but restarting X always seems to fix the
problem.

Had previously installed FC6test1 which installed OK but I was unable to
get WiFi working. No ATrpms kernel modules except for original
installed kernel which was removed by updates before trying ATrpms.
ATrpms ipw3945 rebuilds from sources failed - have not pursued.

OK - now on to Test2: FC6test2 Upgrade with NFS from DVD iso image - OK
ATrpms modules for ipw3945 and ieee80211 load but lock up machine.
Networking takes a LONG time to get DHCP address. VC3 shows repeated
   "INFO : libdhcp_check"
 and finally
   "DHCPv6 eth0 - state: DHC_TIMEOUT"
 then it works.

Garbled pixels problem persists. Many things seemed badly broken
including Gnome windows (as noted on the list in previous threads)
yum and smart. Decided to try a fresh install.

FC6test2 Install with NFS from DVD iso image
Garbled graphics on install make it unreadable.
Text install - OK except for long Ethernet delay and "Cryllic"
characters in
background - disconcerting but apparently innocuous (BZ
#201457).Selected
Development, Science/Engr and KDE packages in addition to default.

Reboot OK except came up in text mode. Configured firewall from
text-mode and ran system-config-display. The nv driver was selected by
default but attempting to configure Hardware/Monitor Type does nothing
(BZ #201600). Video Card showed as Unknown even after selecting or
resetting defauls. Only 800x600 and 640x480 available and USB mouse does
not work - touchpad does. (BZ #202062).

Updated with ATrpms FC6 repo enabled (which is against my usual
practice, but hey - its a test/rawhide system and a fresh install at
that) and installed nvidia-graphics8762 and deps for kernel
2.6.17-1.2517.fc6. Worked around system-config-display by using
xorg.conf from FC6test1 install - which is using nv not nvidia. USB
mouse now working. Could not install ipw3945 and deps due to mismatch
with installed/available kernels.

Fonts look bad (rough) in KDE. Tried turning on font aliasing in
Control Panel to no avail. In Evolution only the initial portion of the
Subject lines is displayed. Similar problems with menus but they look
better after refresh by mousing over. Have yet to try suggested fixes
to change all font settings from "Sans" to "DejaVu LGC Sans" or "DejaVu
LGC Sans Mono" for the fixed width font.

Tried Gnome. Fonts look better but no window manager controls. Running
remote X session on FC5 to be able to work.

Tried several more attempts to update without getting any new packages.
Tried "yum clean all" and then cleared out /var/cache/yum with still no
new packages. Found available packages in development/extras were older
than FC5t2.

Commented out "mirrorlist" and uncommented "baseurl" for both
development and extras-development. Got 271 new packages after
excluding xerces-j2 which has a broken dep
on /usr/sbin/update-alternatices (as noted in "rawhide report: 20060813
changes). Update still running as of this writing. Appears some
mirrors are seriously out of date with test/rawhide.
