As far as I know it can't be worked around. I ran into the same
problem with my new Core 2 Duo system. I opened
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201977 and it was
closed as rawhide. kernel-2.6.17-1.2543.fc6 works for me. I am
currently running FC5 on mine for working Nvidia binary drivers. Xorg
7.1 in FC6 isn't properly compatible with the ATI or Nvidia binary
drivers.
I still have serious problems though. The onboard Jmircon JMB363
sata/pata controller is disabled on boot. Hence I had to go out and
get a sata optical drive. My dual onboard gigabit r8168 network cards
don't work either. I found a set of patches for 2.6.18rc2, which is
older than the latest development kernel,
http://www.fr.zoreil.com/linux/kernel/2.6.x/2.6.18-rc2/r8169/ They
don't seem to have been merged with the main tree. There is also a
driver from Realtek, from what I have read, but it's quality is
questionable.
Thanks, that helps a ton. I disabled the Jmicron controller and booted
FC5 (cd disc 1) of my trusty Sony USB CD. This was successful.
I may just go get a PATA->SATA converter to hook up the DVD burner to
one of the ICH8 ports, rather than the JMicron PATA port.
If I get a chance, I'll try this approach with the FC6-t2 DVD install.
Thanks again,
