Seems more expedient to me, as I suggested, for FC maintainers to inquire how it was fixed, an possibly borrow it. Wouldn't be the first time. Distros borrowing from each other that is. Isn't that one of the main features of open source?

Yes and Fedora maintainers do that all the time. It is far from the efficient way to go patch hunting on multiple distributions however. Since you seem to be familiar with Mandriva and you care about this issue, this is a good chance to contribute.
