Larry,

<ctrl> <alt> <arrow key>
Will move between desktops in the direction of the arrow key.

Also, you can define your own keyboard shortcuts for specific desktop shortcuts:

System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Window Management
    -> Switch to workspace 1
