Deskbar looks like a search tool, rather than an application starter ?
Plus this version seems to not work (i can't type in it, it just makes me type in whatever else I was using or the desktop). But I don't use rawhide on this machine.

Mini-Commander, I assume you're referring to. It's in gnome-applets.

deskbar (yum install deskbar-applet)
