...Actually, yes. On my US English keyboard, I can no longer type
certain characters. That includes not being able to type any of the
shift characters for punctuation on the numbers and extra punctuation
marks. That includes exclamation points, colons, percent signs, etc.

The shift key seems to only work with letters.

Strange...
