Specific packages which are things that make sense to be user visible
but aren't (mozilla mail probably counts here, although it is largely

comps so that they can be added at the appropriate location.

Thanks! I will file a bug against comps. There are programs which should
be de-selectable like gnome-screensaver. Is this feature part of comps
or another process?
