  Hello there,
Hm, I should have tried out boot.iso when it was suggested.

Now I find it cannot see my sata hard disk, and invites me to find drivers by hand. I have had no luck there - it always fails to find the disk.
Any suggestions? I tried booting hdc=noprobe, but no visible
difference.
            Thanks,
               Bill
Ah..got it now. Here is lspci, section from /var/log/messages
The ata_piix driver is the one it was missing. I added that when asked, and
all was well.
 Still...it should be fixed.
