If you read my message again you will see that I said that you needed
the RPM called notify-daemon, not libnotify, they are different things:

	$ rpm -q notify-daemon libnotify
	notify-daemon-0.3.1-3
	libnotify-0.3.0-2

I believe that the notify-daemon is started via D-BUS activation on the
session bus so there is no need to start any service.
