Here is my first experience with FC5T1.
The release notes do not state that the install options - hard drive or
USB drive are broken. (It was on line however). Wasted more than a hour
trying to install from USB drive first and then from hard drive second
partition. Then realized from checking the test forum that this
installation option was broken.
After burning the CDs, did the install which went well - that is without
any major hiccups along the way.
The video card is incorrectly recognized. My card is an ATI mobility
9000. It is now recognized as:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 Lf
[FireGL 9000] (rev 01)
Attempts to change this resulted in a the following error:

So, cannot change the video card.
When I first booted, the network recognition was all screwed up. It
insisted that my
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)
is an ethernet card (not wireless) and would not let me change it. I had
to disable avahi before I could clean that mess as my ethernet
controller was also messed up because of that. Needed to clean the
network configuration by creating and editing the ifcfg-eth0 and
ifcfg-eth1 scripts manually. BTW, is /lib/firmware still the location
for the firmware?
After updating the system this morning with "yum update", started
getting this error at boot:
Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore v1.3.4: Unknown
arg `--icmp-type'
Error occurred at line: 11
Try `iptables-restore -h' or 'iptables-restore --help' for more
information.
(Could not find the exact line in the log. Where is this message stored?)
Bluetooth is initialized automatically, but there is this line in the log:
hcid[2052]: Can't open system message bus connection: Failed to
connect to socket
/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
Perhaps because no bluetooth device is attached to the system currently ?
Thunderbird is not installed automatically. After manual install with
yum, I changed over to it as my default email. However, when Thunderbird
is minimized, it only shows a generic icon on the minimized window and
not the Thunderbird icon I am used to.
The system seems remarkably stable. I am happy with it. Now I am hoping
that the above errors will resolve themselves by Test2. I think the core
team has done a wonderful job with this new release. Looking forward to
using the final version when available.
System Info: Presario X1000 Laptop.
Thanks,
Partha
