All understood I used the RPM package and since add/remove programs currently does not work I tried a yum localinstall but this complains that the realplyer package isn't signed (but this can be worked round) but it did'nt attempt to pull in any dependancy so I guess the realplayer RPM isn't built with this in mind. So a note on what needs to be done to install it in the release notes is probably the way to go for now. --- Rahul Sundaram <sundaram@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Hi > > > This problem actually arises because the rpm > package for realplayer is > > built without automatic dependency checking; an > explicit dependency on > > "gtk2" (without a version) has been added. > > > > If the package were built properly, this wouldn't > be an issue (as the > > dep would be noticed by yum or rpm, depending on > how the user tries to > > install realplayer). > > If the packages provide the dependencies properly, > system-config-packages with yum support would be > able to do be able to > do the equivalent of a yum localinstall <package> on > the downloaded > RealPlayer and get the legacy libs from the > repositories and install it > as required. > > > Installing "by hand" without using the rpm is > asking for trouble, > > although this needs a big red warning in the > release notes, and > > possibly some kind of comment in the installer > package selection to > > the effect that the "legacy" compat libs may be > useful for, say, > > certain third party applications. > > > Read the release notes ;-) > > regards > Rahul > > -- > fedora-test-list mailing list > fedora-test-list@xxxxxxxxxx > To unsubscribe: > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-test-list > -- fedora-test-list mailing list fedora-test-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-test-list
