-ffunction-sections -fdata-sections for libgcc.a?

libstdc++.a on fedora is apparently compiled with -ffunction-sections 
-fdata-sections which allows one to do unused reference garbage collection 
with ld and --gc-sections, which reduces executable size considerably.

However, libgcc.a is not compiled this way. Any specific reason?
