Hi -
After just upgrading to the latest Rawhide,
my IBM ThinkPad T-41 laptop fails to boot, with
a panic / oops during boot of kernel-2.6.13-1.1615 i686.
It has no RS-232 ports, so difficult to connect
a serial console to log the complete panic call
trace.
I'm using the default boot arguments, with which kernel
1601 had no problems.
The last few lines are:
... MANY acpi_* calls (can't see top) ...
[<c0405e98>] acpi_scan_init+0x60/0x77
[<c03ee7fb>] do_initcalls+0x55/0xb1
[<c010026e>] init+0x0/0x152
[<c040e4ff>] netfilter_log_init+0x15/0x2a
[<c010026e>] init+0x0/0x152
[<c010029a>] init+0x2c/0x152
[<c01012f8>] kernel_thread_helper+0x0/0xb
[<c01012fd>] kernel_thread_helper+0x5/0xb
This happens on EVERY boot, so I'm going back to using 1601.
Any kernel developer is welcome to come over to investigate
here in my cube (2447) in Westford.
Thanks & Regards,
Jason Vas Dias.
My IBM T42p blows up too. I can't get the entire trace either, but it
is clearly in the acpi code. I noticed that the most recent rawhide
kernel change has this comment:
* Sun Oct 16 2005 Dave Jones <davej@xxxxxxxxxx>
- Enable ACPI EC Burst.
- Change printk level of an ACPI message.
- Stop IDE claiming legacy ports before libata in combined mode.
Probably ACPI EC Burst is the culprit?
