As a long time user of Universal File Selector, and as a person who is also dismayed at the direction the GTK file selector is taking (and indeed, many of the directions Gnome is taking), I'd like to say this:

If, indeed, the model Gnome is heading toward is "more simplicity, more consistancy, more spatial-ness" then why not eliminate the file selector alltogether, and instead simply use Nautilus to drag and drop files onto the app? When an app requests a file selector, just launch a Nautilus window, and a drop-target window.

OK, now that you all are gagging - perhaps this thread is drifting a bit?
