Have you tried > disabling mmap mode in the ALSA output plugin? I'm seeing something very similar playing DVDs in kaffeine (Xine-based KDE media player). Especially when I switch to or from the menu, but it also just happened in the middle of playing a disc. Kaffeine stops playing any sound, then shortly thereafter freezes, and I have to "kill -9" kaffeine and restart it to make it work again. Should we comment further on the ALSA bug report, or is this something new?
