  Starting with 1286 i get 2 more lines:

       unmounting old /proc
       unmounting old /sys

   Then it hangs - when it works (non-smp kernel) the next line is
   Selinux: disabled.

   Also - the smp kernel works fine on a dell 530 dual (non HT) p4.

   So this seems related to HT possibly.
