Just FYI, that was my decision. I made the package back in the days of
FC1. But I saw no reason to support in in FC2 and FC3 since the same
functionality is provided by the new gnome-mixer. AFAIK part of the new
gnome-mixer are taken from gnome-alsamixer. 

And I think this decision was/is right. The upstream package was not
updated since around one year AFAIK.

I know that the current gnome-mixer isn't the best, but did you look at
it to see if it fits your needs? Anyway I think rebuilding for Fedora-
Extras FC3 is unnecessary and waste of time. If you love gnome-alsamixer
so much rebuild the FC1 srpm yourself. That *should* work.
