I had the same problem after installing FC3 last weekend. I traced the
problem to HAL. Verbose option on hald command line output 4 lines and
segfaulted.

I re-installed the following rpms:

	hal-0.4.0-10.i386.rpm
	hal-cups-utils-0.5.2-8.i386.rpm
	hal-devel-0.4.0-10.i386.rpm
	hal-gnome-0.4.0-10.i386.rpm

with rpm -Uvh --force *.rpm

Maybe there was a problem with the configuration files before
re-install? I got a lonnnnggg debug trace after re-installing. HAL,
gnome-volume-manager and eggcups seem to be working now.
