fsck of r-o mounted reiserfs filesystems works fine. 

Maybe you are thinking of xfs?

Since reiserfs is able to fsck r-o mounted filesystems for as long as I 
can remember, you must have been testing a truly ancient reiserfs (older 
than 2001?)
