DNF5 and STDERR

First background. I will get to my point. Please be patient.

DNF5 has a long standing bug which is partially described in:

and in Issue 570 on GitHub.

The bug still exists and seems to be effecting DNF5 operations where there is a need to send output to STDERR for instance running a script to install lots of files and record errors encountered in a log file. (DNF5 install -y package 2>>errors.log)

In the case of this bug DNF5 sends all of its output to the error file rendering it useless by the sheer size of the error file. I encountered it during my as deployed testing. I left a comment on Issue 570 on GitHub.

My point: We may want to consider adding a test for any software shipped with Fedora Workstation which my need to send output to STDERR.

This time around I just ignored it during my testing. I thought it was a big enough problem that it would certainly be noted and fixed. I was wrong. Am I the only one using DNF5 this way? I guess I will go back to my old practice of writing early and often.

Have a Great Day!
