Yes, that would cause it. Check in the /etc/grub2.cfg file for "nomodeset" on the kernel command line which I expect will be there. If so, remove it from /etc/default/grub and either manually remove it from the grub2.cfg entries or regenerate the file with grub2-mkconfig.
