I'm not sure what virt-manager uses differently than gnome-boxes in that regard but both use qemu/kvm and libvirt. There's other stuff wonky also, where Alpha 6 consistently resets the *hosts* volume to maximum. Alpha 5 doesn't do that. And even if it did that's really concerning that a VM can affect the volume setting of the host.
